Electron 44.0.0 ignored --xdg-portal-required-version (Chromium M145 regression, electron#50057), so Linux file dialogs always went through xdg-desktop-portal. Over SSH/X11-forwarding the portal dialog opens on the server session instead of the forwarded display (journal: 'Failed to associate portal window with parent window x11:...'), leaving the main window modal-blocked and unresponsive. The fix (electron#54227) was backported to 44-x-y via #54303 and is included since 44.5.0. With 44.9.0 the existing xdg-portal-required-version=999 switch in main.js takes effect again and forces the local GTK dialog, which works over X11 forwarding and honors defaultPath.
