TFTP Boot Server

Troubleshooting

To troubleshoot the tftp server / tftp queries check the tftpserver logs as follows:

journalctl -u tftp.service

Upgrade TFTP Boot Server to a new RHEL version

As the network installation requires a TFTP boot server, the old server still needs to be running to be able to install the new server using network boot.

  1. rename the VM to *-old and create a new one
  2. update MAC address in https://gitea.psi.ch/lx/bootstrap/src/branch/prod/generate-pxe-uefi
  3. run generate-pxe-uefi and update the result in https://gitea.psi.ch/lx/network-boot or https://gitea.psi.ch/lx/network-boot-dmz
  4. ensure the kickstart files is also regenerated an available on lx-sync-01.psi.ch:/packages/kickstart
  5. boot the new VM and let it install the OS
  6. as soon as the installer has started shut down the old server
  7. after reboot run dnf upgrade
  8. on lx-boot-dmz-01.psi.ch prepare the checkout: git clone --depth 1 https://$TOKENb@gitea.psi.ch/lx/network-boot-dmz.git /tftpboot
  9. run the Ansible playbook
  10. reboot
