# Systemwide Custom Gnome Settings with dconf
|

|
|
Gnome configuration is backed by [`dconf`](https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects(2f)dconf(2f)SystemAdministrators.html).
|
|
|
|
## Some Tooling
|

### Dump all dconf Configuration
|
|

$ dconf dump /

You may diff the dump before and after making changes in the GUI settings to see how they are persisted.
|
|
|
|
### Delete the User Specific Settings
|
|
|
|

rm ~/.config/dconf/user
|

### Check the Value for a Specific Setting
|
|
|
|

## Configuration

### dconf Values
|
|
|
|
In Hiera `dconf` settings can be configured with the `gnome::dconf::settings` key which contains a hash with the individual paths and therein the individual configurations:

Note that for string values it needs an apostrophe (`'`) around which needs to survive YAML parsing.
|
|
Best surround it with an additional set of `"`.
|
|
|
|
