# Upgrading the build version of your PLC

## 1. Download eXtended Automation Runtime (XAR)
You can find it with the Downloadfinder on the [beckhof webpage](https://www.beckhoff.com/de-ch/support/downloadfinder/suchergebnis/?search=XAR) by searching for: XAR <- cursive
Download the exe file but **don't** install it on your local PC
## 2. Open Remote connection to your target PLC
Open Remotedesktopverbindung. For the connection enter the IP or alias of your Beckhof PLC (whatewer works)
## 3. Login to PLC
The user is Administrator and the password is: 1
## 4. Load XAR to the PLC
Copy the exe file with ctr+c (on your local machine)
then **right click** on the desktop of the **PLC** (in the remote viewer) and paste the exe file
## 5. Install the new XAR
Run the executabele (on the PLC) as administrator
the PLC needs to restart and after that you are finished
