27.01.2026 - Retirement Gitlab Services
It is not possible any more to sign up for a paid access extensions for the Gitlab server git.psi.ch. The respective workflows mentioned in the previous announcements are retired now.
30.09.2025 - End of Support RHEL7 30 June 2026
We will completely stop supporting managing RHEL7 system via Puppet / Hiera by 30 June 2026. From this day on it will not be possible to manage and update systems with RHEL7 via Puppet. Also we will retire all our RHEL7 repositories/mirrors/ISOs hosted on repos.psi.ch. Therefore it will also not be possible to install new packages on RHEL7 any more.
Please update your systems as soon as possible. In case of questions and problems please contact linux-eng@psi.ch
07.06.2025 - Retirement Gitlab Services
Hello Git(lab) Users
We would like to inform and clarify things regarding the future of the Git service(s) here at PSI.
The currently fully supported central Git service at PSI is https://gitea.psi.ch. This service is operated by AWI and you can count on a 1-year notice period in case there are major changes to the nature of this service. As already communicated before, this service is open to all PSI users and is and will be free of charge. The service is accessible in all PSI networks as well as from the Internet. It requires a PSI account with MFA enabled.
The externally accessible Gitlab server https://gitlab.psi.ch will be shut down by 30 November 2025. Please migrate your repositories to https://gitea.psi.ch or some other service of your choice as soon as possible. If you're migrating to services other than https://gitea.psi.ch, please check with your management for compliance with PSI guidelines and your divisional policy on the accessibility of software!
The internal Gitlab server https://git.psi.ch will be shut down by 1 June 2026. However, users that still need to access https://git.psi.ch and https://gitlab.psi.ch after 1 September 2025 need to register by 31 August 2025 via following ServiceNow request:
PSI Service Catalog > IT > Research Computing > Apply for GitLab Service
Important: you can only register yourself no delegation possible!
There are 2 registration options:
- (default) Access until 30 November 2025. No license costs will be charged for this extension period. Your access will be automatically removed as soon as the "necessary to pay" period will start on 1 December 2025.
- Extended / Paid Service will give you access until the git.psi.ch server will be shut down on 1 June 2026. Your group/department will be charged 360 CHF per user for the period 30 November 2025 up to 1 June 2026. (Licenses are bound to a specific user - re-assignment of a license from one user to another is not possible.)
Finally, we would like to encourage and invite all people again to migrate their repositories to the https://gitea.psi.ch service! If you need help or have questions, please reach out to gitea@psi.ch .
Update 22.09.2025 - Improved description regarding the registration needs. People need to register for git.psi.ch __and__ gitlab.psi.ch access
