# AFS Legacy Workflows

!!! warning Deprecation Note
The usage of AFS is deprecated. AFS home directories were set to read-only in March 2026, project drives were set read-only in May 2026. The service was put out of order Friday 21 August 2026 for the general usage. Only LRT has an exception to further use AFS until December 2027 for certain type of projects.

This document covers the manual tasks needed for new users of LRT so that they are able to work in the LRT environment.

## Creation AFS home

```bash

ssh lx-helpdesk
echo "linux-eng@psi.ch" > /afs/psi.ch/service/AFS/var/om/open/example_a
# replace example_a with username
```

## Closing of the account/home

```bash
ssh lx-helpdesk 
touch /afs/psi.ch/service/AFS/var/om/close/example_a
# replace example_a with username
```

## Ensure AD Attributes

In AD the correct setting of following two attributes are important:

- `msSFU30HomeDirectory`
- `UnixHomeDirectory`

Both attributes need to be set to `/afs/psi.ch/user/e/example_a` (replace username!)
