Gnome Screenshots and Screencasts
Gnome has a build in screenshot and screencast application. You can use following shortcuts to easily use this functionality:
- PrintScreen: Take a screenshot of the desktop
- Alt + PrintScreen: Take screenshot of the current active window
- Shift + PrintScreen: Take a screenshot of an area you select
With all shortcuts the screenshots will end up in the Pictures folder in your home directory. If you don't have a Pictures folder the files will end up in your home folder.
You can also hold down Ctrl with any of the above shortcuts to copy the screenshot image to the clipboard instead of saving it.
To create a screencast of your desktop you can use following shortcuts:
- Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R: Start recording
- Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R: Stop recording
The video is automatically saved in your Videos folder in your home folder. If you don't have a Videos folder the files will end up in your home folder.
